Adoniram RAM Installation

30th March 2012

On Friday 30th March, W.Bro. Ian Fisher installed Bro Sydney Ford as Worshipful Commander of           Adoniram RAM Lodge No552 .

The ceremony was very well accomplished by W.Bro. Ian: he being a referee for the sport of rowing to Olympic standards (and a solicitor). Bro. Sydney is the distinguished Chairman of Garston Craft Group (now retired).

Bro. Ian elevated 2 new members in his year: Bro's David Chestnut and Peter Taaffe: both of whom are Prov auditors for the Mark and Fellows of the Inst of Chartered Accountants.

The Installation on Friday was witnessed by the PGM, in the company of RW Bro Colin Wright , W.Bro's  Michael Clarke & Ian Nairn (Ass Pr GMs) and             Tony Harrison (Past Dep Pr GM).

It was a lovely surprise for our new Commander, and all the Ark Mariners present when W.Bro. Dr. David Karsa (treasurer) presented the Lodge with an inscribed Porphyry stone .

This was because when he was in the chair he realized we had a substitute! Whilst there was plenty of reference to porphyry on the web, It was not so easy to find.

Eventually he tracked it down to Crosby Memorials who obtained a piece, and inscribed it for him.       Bro. Smith then most generously refused any payment. A charitable donation was made in lieu.        Bro. Smith is not (yet) a Mark mason. By coincidence only, he is a member of Allen Pooley R.C. of which the PGM is a member.

Dr David Karsa is a scientific chemist , and holds high office in the Royal Society of Chemists. Our new WC pointed out that as a wholesale pharmacist, he wasn't sure he was high enough up the chemical scale to accept it. However he did so with the grateful thanks of all our members.

After all this excitement it was a relief to enjoy our private cocktail bar: followed by melon (and fresh ginger), Salmon with 'Dave Woodward' sauce, and a Lancashire cheese board 'et al'.

Thanks to unobtrusive but skilled attention by the Provincial DC (David Emmerson) all Ark Mariners were able to sail away by 9 p.m."
